What's fun about coming from a musical family is while I was growing up I always got a chance to make my own parody of whatever song was being played in the house. I can still get an occasional laugh from my renditions every once in a while but it has always been a goofy quirk of mine.
The primary song, "I love to See the Temple" just happened to be one of my parody victims one day a long time ago. This version was a big hit with my mom, so it's only fitting I release the lyrics for her. Just in time for Mother's Day.
I love to read the paper
It comes here everyday
To tell me things that happen
and things that people say
For the paper is an info source
with things that I can study
So leave me alone
Go over there
I'm reading my newspaper.
-Happy Mother's Day mom.

Jacob, I just wrote a very long comment and it was lost and gone forever.
ReplyDeleteWaaaahhhhh!
I love this post and yes, I love to read the paper. I have always enjoyed your songs and your clever lyrics. I think they are my favorite songs ever written.
I am so happy to have the words in print, and I would also like a copy of your famous Homeschool song.
I love your sense of humor, and am so happy we find the same things amusing.
The newspaper is such a part of my daily life that I almost feel confused if I don't sit down and read it. As if I skipped something or a bed was unmade, or a floor unvacuumed in my mind somewhere. I was always so happy when some of you children were interested in the paper, too. Do you remember Annie Laurie being so little and holding up the paper, silently studying and trying to read it alongside me? I had to give her her own section. I'm sure you remember that I never wanted anyone to read it until I had read it first. Who wants an already read, crumpled newspaper? I remember when The Original Four were all little and I'd be sitting in the backyard or on the front porch watching you play and reading the paper, when some of you- who shall remain nameless- used to snatch it out of my hands. I like to think they just wanted their turn to read it, too.
Thank you for remembering me with this humorous song. I am laughing at the words, and remembering how much I loved it the very first time you sang it. Yes, son, not only do I love your sense of humor, but it's true I do love to read The Paper. And I hope all of my children have or will someday each have their very own subscription to their local newspapers so some day they're children will remember how much they loved to read The Paper, too.
